Tusshar Kapoor is making just the right amount of shor when it comes to his personal as well as professional life. The actor tells us that 2011 is the most ambitious and important year of his career
The year 2011 looks like the most important year of your life with as many as four movies lined up for release.
It sure is the most important and ambitious year of my career.
1x1 polls
It is also the most crucial because all these movies are very different from one another and give me a chance to do something that I’ve never done before. “Shor” deals with the underbelly of Mumbai, while “Love You Mr Kalaakar” is a romantic saga. “Hum Tum Aur Shabana” will have me playing a corporate character, while in “Dirty Picture” I’ll be essaying the role of an unsuccessful, yet strong-minded writer. I’m looking forward to all this.
Also, you will be playing the lead in all these movies. How does that feel?
I consider myself lucky that producers and directors still believe in me and are giving me a chance to work as a lead, especially with roles that are so diverse and have a lot to offer.
But all these movies are not your typical Bollywood films. Are you positive that they will work?
Why not? In fact I feel that movies that are zara hatke are doing extremely well at the box office in comparison to formula films. Be it “Love Sex Aur Dhoka” or “Udaan”, all these movies belong to the new wave of cinema and people like it. My movies also fall under the new wave category.

But “Dabangg” was a formula film. A typical masala film as one would call it and was a super duper hit.
Yes it was, but it wasn’t a mindless movie. Also, I’m not saying that formula ones don’t work, it’s just that there has to be some method to the madness. “Dabangg” was entertaining and comprehensible. The item songs and the action, everything added to the script. The audience now wants to hear a good story. They have given up on mindless drama. If the script is good, the movie will work.
So, will it be correct to say that you are trying to challenge your craft by doing such diverse cinema?
Absolutely not. I’ve never thought of challenging my craft, I don’t need to. I have already proved my versatility and credibility in movies like “Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai”, “Khaki”, “Shootout At Lokhandwala” and “Golmaal”. I never made an effort to be a part of these films. I guess it is all destiny.
There was news that you are fed up with your sister, Ekta, interfering in your life and sort of dictating your love life.
My life is my own, no one rules my life or dictates what I should be doing, be it personally or professionally. And why would Ekta have any issues with who I am dating and what I am doing? I do consult her when it comes to work, but sometimes I do the complete opposite of what she says. That is because I am my own person. I am what I am, I have a personality and she is a different person with a different personality. More than a sister, Ekta is like a friend, but we don’t discuss work at home and neither do we discuss our personal lives with each other.
But she was quite vocal about her dislike for Radhika Apte (your co-star in “Shor In The City”) on “Koffee With Karan”.
Ekta doesn’t even know Radhika properly, where does the question of her liking or disliking her arise? All that she said on that show was said in jest. Everyone knows Karan’s show is all about humour and light talk. People are just reading too much between the lines. There is nothing of that sort.
So, what is your equation with Radhika Apte like?
She is my co-star in “Shor In The City” and we are good friends.
And?
And what? I like it when people speculate so I’m not going to say whether I’m dating her or not, but yes, I do like spending time with her. We are getting to know each other and till now, it’s been going pretty well.
